Thrive – Housing Support

At Barnsley Recovery Steps, we’re dedicated to helping you with your housing needs. Whether you’re in need of emergency accommodation, securing community housing, or staying connected with essential services, we’re here to provide the support you need. We also offer peer support to help you navigate these challenges.

If you’re struggling to maintain a tenancy, we can assist you in finding emergency accommodation, community housing, or financial assistance to help you stay on your feet.

Our Service

We work with people who are over 25 from the Barnsley area who are homeless and have complex needs. The support we offer is across 3 support sites, which vary for the level of support people need.

We’re here to help

The service supports up to 15 residents and is staffed 24/7.  We work with people who have high support needs and have been homeless for long periods.

We progress to step-down accommodation, which continues to provide support at a medium-to-low level. When people are ready to move on, we support them to live in semi-independent accommodation with low-level support.

We also run groups, support meetings and activities like crafts, art and cooking, all focused on building skills for independent living. The ultimate aim is to equip people with all the skills they need to live independently in the community.

Who is this service for

  • People who are aged 25 and over
  • People who are homeless
  • People who struggle with their mental health
  • People who use drugs and/or alcohol
  • People who are leaving prison

The people we support are referred to us via the local housing options team.

Comprehensive Support: Accommodation, Rehab, and Detox Services

We work closely with Barnsley Borough Metropolitan Council to signpost and refer you to the right housing support services.

Thrive Barnsley, part of Waythrough, provides supported accommodation for individuals in Barnsley who are homeless, struggling with mental or physical health, or facing other challenges. Our services are designed to help you overcome obstacles and achieve your goals. Whether you need housing, health support, or assistance with other needs, we’re here to help you build a better future in Barnsley.

Thrive offers 15 bed spaces across three sites:

Beevor Court features a 6-bedroom hostel staffed 24 hours a day, designed for tenants with complex needs.

Doncaster Road consists of 5 self-contained flats, also staffed 24 hours a day, serving as a step down from Beevor Court. Typically, tenants transition to Doncaster Road after completing an intensive support package at Beevor Court, which is followed by additional support to help them develop skills necessary for managing and maintaining a tenancy.

William Street has 4 self-contained flats, with staff visiting each day. These flats are intended for clients who are ready to move on to their own tenancy.

All referrals are made through Barnsley Council.

In addition to housing support, we can help you access rehab and detox services. For more information, please visit our Rehab and Detox section.
