Since July 2024, Barnsley Recovery Steps has launched a new treatment pathway, offering comprehensive support for individuals struggling with alcohol, drugs, and mental health issues. Our specialist mental health team is here to help ANYONE facing both substance use and mental health challenges. We collaborate closely with mental health teams across Barnsley, including the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), to ensure seamless care.
Our approach includes making referrals, supporting individuals in attending assessments and appointments, and working jointly with other services. This innovative pathway is designed to ensure that those with a dual diagnosis receive the tailored support they need.
Our counselling service provides a confidential and safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours with a trained professional. Through counselling, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, helping you develop healthier coping strategies.
A counsellor won’t offer opinions, advice, or prescribe medication. Instead, they will guide you towards finding your own solutions, whether that involves making positive changes or better managing life’s challenges. While our counsellors do not provide substance use advice, they may help you explore underlying factors contributing to your substance use.
In addition to traditional counselling, we also offer Art Psychotherapy, which allows you to express yourself through art while working towards the same therapeutic goals.
Our service operates Monday to Friday, providing 12 weekly, 1-hour counselling sessions. After 6 sessions, we’ll review your progress to ensure the support meets your needs. If further assistance is required, we’ll discuss ongoing options with you.
Our counselling services can help address a wide range of issues, including:
Sessions are held at McLintocks Building on Summer Lane, the sole location for counselling.
This service is available for clients in active recovery with the Barnsley Recovery Steps team. To access counselling, you need to be working with a Recovery Navigator. We ask that you commit to attending regular sessions and focus on exploring your mental health.
Please note, you should not be engaging in any other counselling service simultaneously.
To begin, speak with your Recovery Navigator, who will discuss your options. If you’re not currently receiving support from us, please contact us by phone or complete our referral form to take the first step on your recovery journey.
