THC Harm Reduction
Whilst there is no way to consume THC without risk, there are ways to reduce the risks from using THC Vapes:
- Start with a small amount, test the effects and the strength by taking a few draws then take a ten minute break. You can easily become overwhelmed if you take too much too quickly.
- Know what’s in your juice. Test the status before using. Most THC juice is likely to be SPICE
- Keep your vape and any liquid stored safely and away from any younger children / siblings..
- Use in a safe place (e.g. not near open water, high up, near a train line, in a park/field.)
- Dress for the weather.
- Buy a good quality vaporiser.
- Your tolerance may drop after a period of not using: take smaller amounts and slow down.
- Clean your vape regularly and only use it yourself.
- Check for overheating or smoke due to poor quality equipment.
- Purchase vape juice from trusted sources – also known as places where you’ve purchased and used the substance without unforeseen or dangerous effects.
- Smoking herbal cannabis or using edibles is also considered as generally safer given the more predictable effects, however isn’t without it’s risks.
- Avoid using high doses, mixing with any other substances, including alcohol and prescribed medications.
- Try and get enough sleep and rest after a binge..
- Eat regular meals and eat as healthy as you can.
- Sharing isn’t caring – it can lead to infections and is also legally classed as supplying which is an offence.
- Save emergency numbers and make sure your phone is charged.
- Use in a safe place (e.g. not near open water, high up, near a train line.)
- Avoid using alone if you can or let someone know where you are and what you are using.
- If you have a mental health diagnosis, avoid the use of cannabis and related drugs to help keep you well.
- Avoid using when feeling down or low in mood. THC / Spice vaping can affect your mental health and sometimes you can do things without thinking which may be harmful.
- If you become anxious or paranoid, avoid crowded place and find somewhere quiet to sit.
- Using drugs can lower your inhibition’s and you may do things or behave in a way you wouldn’t normally (ie: unprotected sex, other behaviours). Before you use, try and set yourself some boundaries so you are prepared (ie: carry condoms/contraception).
- Drugs can impair your ability to drive or operate dangerous machinery. Leave mopeds/bikes/cars at home.
